■From the "Introduction"
The author has worked in the field of Japanese language education for over 45 years. Based on their own perspective and theoretical foundations, they have planned Japanese language education, created and provided teaching materials and resources, shared them with fellow teachers, and practiced education in which the majority of learners achieve the set goals. Furthermore, they have delved beyond Japanese linguistics, sociolinguistics, and second language acquisition research into fields such as psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology, and philosophy of language, exploring fundamental questions such as what language is, what the self is, what it means for a person to speak, and why people can communicate with each other. Such exploration stems from the belief that Japanese language education is not simply about teaching and having students learn Japanese sentence patterns, grammar, vocabulary, and expressions for practical communication. Furthermore, I believe that only by delving into such depths can I provide a profound and comprehensive theoretical foundation for what and how to promote Japanese language acquisition and improvement among learners.
In this book, I would like to discuss my perspective on Japanese language acquisition and support, as well as the theoretical basis for it. This book is not a guide to teaching methods or instructional techniques for Japanese, but by reading it, your perspective on Japanese language acquisition and improvement, and how to support it, will change significantly, and your current and future lesson planning and practice will also change.
