Frankincense is an oleomeric resin that exudes from trees when the bark is scratched or cut. On contact with air, the liquid solidifies into a ball-shaped mass or "teardrop" shape. Powdered frankincense powder hardens quickly when re-exposed to air. The resinous solid form of fragrance is used as an ingredient in many perfumes.
