[Fusion of racing mechanism and unique form]
Ducati's superbike that debuted at the 2011 Milan show is the 1199 Panigale. Instead of Ducati's signature steel tube truss frame, it uses a new aluminum monocoque frame with a structure similar to the MotoGP racer Desmosedici GP11, and is equipped with a 1198cc liquid-cooled L-twin engine that produces 195 horsepower, the strongest in its class. What's more, the engine is used as the frame's structural material, and the monocoque frame, which also serves as an air box, and the cantilever swing arm are directly attached to it, achieving high rigidity and light weight. The technology cultivated through racing has been poured into this product. Another feature is that it incorporates electronic control mechanisms in every part, from the engine output characteristics to the suspension. Furthermore, its unique form, which is so slim that you wouldn't think it's a liter bike, has won numerous design awards. It has become a big attraction along with its driving performance.
