The "Earth Walker Goshuin Series" was launched in 2006 as Japan's first goshuin-themed book. We've previously published the "Temple Series," focusing on ancient temples in Kamakura, Kyoto, Tokyo, and Mount Koya; the "Amazing Series," featuring lesser-known goshuin from around Japan; and the "Shrine Series," covering the entire country, including Kanto, Kansai, and Tokyo. But in response to readers' requests for a book featuring only Tohoku shrines, we're releasing a goshuin book featuring Tohoku shrines!
Originally, goshuin were awarded as proof of offering sutras at temples. Now, they're casually received as proof of worship, and collecting them is on the rise, especially among women.
This book carefully selects shrines with a reputation for "amazing goshuin and divine blessings" from among the many shrines in the Tohoku region. It introduces not only famous shrines like Shiogama Shrine and Dewa Shrine, but also shrines and their goshuin, categorized by a variety of blessings, including matchmaking, financial luck, career luck, and prayers for success.
It also provides popular basic information such as the differences between shrines and temples, how to worship, the structure of the temple grounds, and profiles of the gods. It also includes a convenient model route for planning your trip, as well as a wide-area map of the Tohoku region.
