The colorful hues are inspired by actual traditional Danish houses dating back to the 17th century. Similar houses still remain in cities like Copenhagen. The lid at the bottom can be opened and closed using the included small plastic piggy bank, eliminating the need to break it open. Displaying multiple piggy banks side by side recreates a charming miniature townscape reminiscent of an Andersen fairytale. In fact, Andersen himself lived in Nyhavn, a 19th-century town where houses of this style still stand today. Nyhavn was a port town, and the colorful hues were apparently used by sailors to identify their homes from afar. Designed in Denmark and produced in the Netherlands.
