Jakuchu Art Book Calendar 2025 Edition (Calendar)

A floral ceiling painting by Ito Jakuchu, a painter active in the mid-Edo period, is treasured at Shingyoji Temple in Kyoto (not open to the public). Originally painted for the Kannon Hall of Sekihoji Temple, where Jakuchu spent his final years, it ended up on the current temple ceiling, following a strange fate. During the Meiji period, Geisodo published a luxurious collection of woodblock prints, "Jakuchu Gafu," which selected 100 images from this ceiling painting and reproduced them in multicolor woodblock prints. The "Jakuchu Gafu Calendar" features 13 prints from this collection, including the cover. The unique compositions of the flowers and plants depicted in Jakuchu's paintings are reproduced using meticulous printing techniques to preserve the authenticity of the woodblock prints. This series, beloved for the past 10 years, has been renewed for the 2025 edition. The crisp white paper has been replaced with a softly warmer texture, and the cover has been embellished with gold foil for a more elegant look.
