The debut solo album by Durand Jones, the frontman of the contemporary R&B/Soul group Durand Jones & The Indications, is complete. A delicate and personal work reflecting on his hometown and his life, titled "Wait Til I Get Over," has been released.
Durand Jones' "Wait Til I Get Over" is a memoir and a love letter. It tells the story of Jones' life, his growth and confessions, and insights about his hometown, gained only after leaving it. He writes about the primitive beauty and rough roads, feelings from his teenage years wanting to leave this town, and the desire to honor his roots as an adult, the history of plantations, and the ups and downs of the Black community living in a city of reparations. "A part of me is left in my hometown. If I am creating something that my younger self would be proud of, Hilaryville occupies a large part of that," Jones says.
In his memories of Hilaryville and the life he has lived since then, he finds some transformation and ultimately asserts all of himself. As a result, the work becomes delicate and personal by touching on his relationship with church life, his mother, queerness, and his own values.
Durand Jones is the frontman of the contemporary R&B/Soul group Durand Jones & The Indications, formed in 2012 in Bloomington, Indiana. Durand Jones & The Indications released their debut album "Durand Jones & The Indications" in 2016 from Ohio's soul label, Colemine Records.
