Ugears Aero Clock 70157 Wooden Puzzle Craft Model - No Glue or Tools Required - Adults and Children

The Ugears Aero Clock is a working clock that you assemble yourself, mount on the wall, wind up, and watch the seconds, minutes, and hours tick by. Unlike other clocks, the Aero Clock is an ingenious puzzle and DIY clock mechanism.

The Ugears clock uses gravity to pull down a weighted bag (you can put sand or salt in the bag). You lift the bag with a pulley to wind the clock. As the weight slowly descends, the drive gear rotates, which in turn rotates the escape wheel via a reduction gear.

The clock features an adjustable weighted pendulum that interacts with the escape wheel via a stable scale on the escapement. By sliding the weights at the top and bottom of the pendulum, you can adjust the clock's ticking to the second.

Did you know that before standardization, some clocks moved clockwise and others counterclockwise? In the role of the "cuckoo," the Ugears Aero Clock features a model hot air balloon. The suspended balloon descends rapidly when the time comes, then slowly rises again during the next hour. By creating the AeroClock, a wooden wall clock with a pendulum, you will learn the fundamental principles behind the clockwork: how the stabilizing effect of the swinging pendulum works through the locking anchor, and how to lock and unlock the escapement gears one second at a time. This allows you to adjust the (slow) descent of the weights when driving both the power gear and the timekeeping gear.
