Parsifal, Wagner's final stage work, which draws its theme from the legend of the Holy Grail, premiered at the second Bayreuth Festival in 1882. This video captures the 1992 performance by the MET, which in 1903 staged the first unauthorized performance outside Bayreuth for 30 years under Wagner's direction. With a cast of the foremost Wagner singers of the time, Schenk's traditional direction, and Levine's conducting, this is the best Parsifal one could hope for.
