Ebisu-ten is the third son of Izanagi-no-Mikoto and is enshrined at Nishinomiya Ebisu as Hiruko-no-Mikoto. He is depicted wearing a black hat, a sea bream, and a fishing rod. His joyful features make him a joyful and laughing god. He is also one of the Seven Lucky Gods (composed of gods and Buddhas from India, China, and Japan), and is said to have been worshiped since the late Muromachi period and to have become widely popular among the common people since the mid-Edo period.
Ebisu's sea bream is said to bring good fortune and happiness. He became known as the god of abundant harvests and wealth, and is the patron deity of business.
He is often worshipped together with Daikokuten as the two gods of prosperity in business and good fortune. Because he brings calm to the minds of those who see him, he is recommended as both an interior decoration and a good luck charm.
