Acala is the guardian deity of the Year of the Rooster. This wooden statue has been meticulously carved down to the smallest detail, then hand-painted in pale colors, with gold leaf applied to the plain wood outline. The gentle colors create just the right amount of contrast while highlighting the grain and natural surface of the cypress, resulting in a Buddhist statue that exudes a dignified yet gentle charm.
Note: Each product is handcrafted by artisans and Buddhist sculptors, and finished to a high level of uniformity. As this product is made from natural wood, the grain and color may vary slightly from piece to piece.
■Acala (Fudo Myo-o) - A protective deity for those born in the Year of the Rooster. Acala acts under the command of Dainichi Nyorai (Vairocana Buddha). He assumes a stern appearance to save people and burn away all obstacles and impurities. Acala, the most famous of the Myo-o, is a Buddhist statue commonly seen alongside Kannon and Jizo. Acala is said to be an incarnation of Dainichi Nyorai (Vairocana Buddha) and is affectionately known as "O-Fudo-san." His ferocious face is meant to guide those who do not obey the Buddha's gentle face to the right path. The sword in his right hand exorcises all worldly desires that hinder the Buddha's teachings, and the great flames he carries on his back burn down evil spirits and obstacles. The rope in his left hand protects people's eternal peace and grants great blessings by helping them attain enlightenment. Although it looks scary, it is a Buddha statue filled with compassion and a desire to save people.
