Hanasumire Series...A diverse variety of violets is native to Japan, making it known as one of the world's leading violet kingdoms. Many enthusiasts, including numerous clubs and research groups, are also active. We commissioned the Japan Violet Research Society, established in 1973, to select and supervise the flower species used to create this charming cup and saucer. The teacup, with its flared edges resembling a blooming flower, can also be enjoyed as a sorbet cup. The saucer is also printed with the series name and the name of the flower. "Variegated Genji Violet" is said to have been named after Murasaki Shikibu, who was famous for her purple leaf undersides. This delicate violet boasts deep blue-purple flowers.
